The process of designing Innov8 Chandigarh started early, just after opening our first centre at Connaught place. We have been planning and searching for a perfect spot in the heart of Chandigarh to cement our facility. Innov8 Chandigarh with 7,000 sq.ft area and 5000 sq.ft carpet area space is a befitting counterpart to our Delhi centre. Innov8 CP bagged all the requirements which seemed to be required of a co working space. We managed to create an aura which spoke to a very young and vibrant crowd. Over the past few months, the success levels of people and teams who have joined is evident that our design approach worked.
Our plan for Innov8 Chandigarh is to give an own identity but at the same time not replicate the same outlook. The idea is to create a positive aura when you come into the space, get inspired, and get a lot of work done by the end of the day. That is what We Innov8 as a brand stands for. It stands for Inspiration, Motivation and Action. To create an environment for our members to move ahead and be better than the person we were yesterday.
When it comes to the design of Innov8 Chandigarh, the initial challenge was to combine three slots in a mall to join them and make a single unit housing with optimal number of seats. The aim is to make the space more open and invite people to come and facilitate more collaboration. The conventional approach of working and cubicle is something we despise and wanted to make work comfortable. We didn’t want everyone to be etched on to their desks or cubicles but wanted them to go find themselves a comfy chair out of the many we have and use it to their fulfilment. Meeting rooms were given a formal and casual approach. “We wanted to create warm and inviting feeling within the space which resonates with the culture of the Chandigarh. Be it the meeting rooms, the reception, the cafe or the workspace, we wanted it all to be welcoming.” explains Nithin Anthony- Head of Design, Innov8 Coworking.
The overall approach is to keep the same raw design feeling of the space while making sure that the space feels unique. The ceiling was left bare just the way it was. All the pipes and ducts were also left just the way they were. The AC ducts and were left in the open and just painted upon. We did not want to hide away a major part of the ceiling and make the space look claustrophobic. We have used a decent amount of wood for the same reasons we used it in Innov8 Delhi.
Lighting was a major part to be covered in the space. We wanted the space to be as warm as possible and leave very artificial kind of lighting out of the space by installing a lot of tungsten filament lights close to the front end of the glass. The intention was to give our space extra life compared to every other shop in the mall. Apart from these all the other areas are well lit to help provide the best of functionality to the people using the space.
